Be able to bulk delete users from within your US
Curious how important it would be to transfer data on deleted accounts? Reason I ask is that basic deletion is simple to implement, but making sure all data transfers have completed before accounts are deleted is not simple.
Also curious -- When and why are folks needing to mass-delete accounts? There's a lot of info out there suggesting that Google account deletion is generally bad practice, so curious under what conditions people think it's a good practice.
It would be students so no data transfer needed. Just mass deletion. Transferring would be a nice bonus
I can see that being a benefit if there would be a way to set a schedule to delete users based on criteria like OU last logged in date, etc.that would allow for compliance with email and data retention according to district policy. For example, delete these graduates 1 year after date of graduation. We usually do this manually but it is a bit tedious and we have to use reminders to make sure we remember to delete the accounts. Might be nice.
Kaitlyn - data transfer is hard only because we need a way to ensure it has completed before engaging in account deletion, so it complicates the design quite a bit... means somehow holding onto a list of users pending data transfer and then only deleting them once the transfer has been confirmed.
We're also advocating for Google to make the "details of last user-initiated data transfer" available as a property on users, so you could know whether a student had transferred their data or not, to what account they transferred it (maybe useful for staying in touch with graduates!), and possibly provide a reminder, etc. and have more confidence you are "doing no harm" prior to deletion.
For us it's a case of notify the graduating seniors to move their data by X date (say end of summer) or it will be gone. No reason to keep all those users in the domain once they have moved on to greener pastures.
Tim - I'm going to add a separate feature request to the board for "Scheduled account deletion" since in my view that takes things in a more ambitious direction and we obviously want to gauge the scale of interest on it before proceeding.
Bulk delete is good for graduating students. I showed them how to do google take out. Gave them a cut off date and then want to bulk delete.
